Atatürk Mask is one of the most important symbolic structures of both İzmir and Buca. The construction of the Atatürk Mask, which turns its face towards Yeşildere Ring Road and Kadifekale within the borders of Çaldıran District of Buca, started in 2006. Atatürk Mask, which was put into service with a ceremony held in 2009, is considered the tallest statue in Turkey with its 42 meters height.
Bearing the title of Turkey’s largest Atatürk mask, the Buca Atatürk Mask ranks tenth in terms of size in relief sculptures in the world. In the lower left corner of the Atatürk Mask, Atatürk’s word “Peace at home, peace in the world” and his signature are embossed. The Atatürk Mask is higher than the 38-meter-high Jesus statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
650 tons of steel and 600 cubic meters of concrete were used in the construction of Atatürk Mask, whose renovation and maintenance works were carried out lastly in the summer of 2018 by Buca Municipality.
