Hanson Mansion, located on Uğur Mumcu Street in Dumlupınar District, was built by Hansons from British Levantine families in 1876. Unfortunately, we do not have much information about the Hanson Family, the first owners of the Buca Hanson Mansion, which consists of two floors above the ground and a lean-to facade.
Hanson Mansion, located on Uğur Mumcu Street, which Levantine families called as İzmir Street because the road went to İzmir city center in the past, is one of the oldest structures in Buca, whose construction date is known and has survived to the present day.
Considering the location of the Hanson Mansion, was built as their private residence by the Hanson Family, who was among the founders of the first bank established in the western sense during the Ottoman Empire, and its large land, we can understand that they were from the rich Levantine families of the period.
Among the neighbors of Hanson Mansion; Hacı Davut Fargoh, owner of Fargoh Mansion (known as Pink Mansion today), Gavrili Family, owner of Gavrili Mansion, Rees Family, one of the architects of Paradiso-Boudja (Şirinyer-Buca) Train Station and Buca Train Station are just a few of them.
Buca Hanson Mansion, is built on a unique land belonging only to them, has a simple exterior with a horizontal and unique architectural style in which stone and brick are used without plastering. Although it has a simple exterior, in fact, with the material, workmanship and architectural style used, this exterior of Hanson Mansion has been able to come to the present day in its original form with its characteristic features.
Unlike the Levantine mansions in Buca, Hanson Mansion, where private living spaces are located on the ground floor and the guest, dining room and living spaces are located on the upper floor, the spatial setup, detailed and meticulous workmanship in the interior arrangements and the exterior structure show that it has a unique style in the western sense. We can clearly understand it today.
The Hanson Family, one of the British Levantine families, became one of the main actors in the restoration of the damaged Buca Protestant Baptist Church after the Hanson Mansion was built in 1876. Unfortunately, we cannot reach much information about the Hanson Family, who wrote a letter to get the necessary permissions from the Izmir Governor of the time, Cabuli (kabuli) Paşa.
Although the original architecture of Buca Hanson Mansion has been slightly affected by some elements added later, the additional building built in the garden of the mansion on the land can cause difficulties in understanding the architecture.
Today, the Hanson Mansion, which has a private ownership, again serves as the service building of a private educational institution.
