Rees Mansion, which was built by the Rees family in the mid-1800s, is now used as the deanary’s building of Dokuz Eylul University (DEU) Buca Education Faculty. Built by the Rees Family, one of the leading actors in the establishment of the Buca railway line, this mansion has a typical English architecture. Rees Mansion, which has been standing for two centuries, is among the most important structures of Buca.
It would not be wrong to say that the Rees Family, known as Bucalı for generations and expressing themselves as Bucalı(people of Buca), is one of the symbolic families of both İzmir and Buca. The commercial life of the Rees Family, which started with cotton production at first, continued with mining operations and making a great fortune.
The family also spent a great deal of this wealth on Buca. Undoubtedly, some of them are; Buca railway, Rees mansion, Şirinyer Hippodrome and Buca Proteston Church can be listed as the stained glass windows that carry artistic values.

Buca Rees Mansion, which is hardly known, although it is actually a copy of the summer palace of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, is a 3-story manor house with a typical English architecture. The ruins used for horse racing, located to the north of the Rees Mansion, which spans a very large area, have survived to this day.
Although the exact date of construction of Buca Rees Mansion is unknown, it is believed to have been built between 1880 and 1890. The Rees Mansion, which is full of items with artistic values that stand out with its woodwork inside the building, differ from similar structures with peacock embroideries on the fireplaces located inside.
Buca Rees mansion, which was built with a deep geometric architectural understanding of both its external form and internal form, was seized by Rahmi Bey, the Governor of Izmir at the time, and used as a boarding school for girls. The mansion, which was given back to the Rees Family at the end of the war, was bought by the Ministry of National Education after the family left Turkey in the 1930s and was put into service for educational purposes again.

The Rees family, whose ties with Izmir continued until 1947, is also remembered for paying a ransom to save the kidnapped son of Governor Rahmi Bey. Currently, the Rees mansion, located in the Faculty of Education of Dokuz Eylül University, serves as the Deanery of the Faculty of Education.
