The first regular horse races in our country in the modern sense took place for the first time on September 23, 1856 in Izmir Şirinyer. Şirinyer Racecourse, which was brought to Buca by the wealthy Levantine families of the period who had gained influential status in Izmir due to its being the gateway to maritime trade, also has many historical significance.

Although it was founded especially by the British Levantine families with their longing and love for horse racing, it became popular in the country in 1863 when Sultan Abdülaziz watched the races at the Izmir Paradiso Racecourse (Şirinyer Racecourse) for the first time. In fact that the Sultan even arranged races on his behalf.
Horse racing, which was known only as a non-Muslim sport in the early period, reached a much wider audience with the arrival of Sultan Abdulaziz at Şirinyer Racecourse and the participation of the Muslim people as both audience and jockeys. The Rees family, known for organizing horse races for the first time in the country, also became one of the main actors in the construction of the Şirinyer Racecourse.
Although it is not well known, the night races in Turkey took place for the first time at Şirinyer Racecourse on May 31,2007. Usually women and families can participate in the night runs at Şirinyer Racecourse, where a wide area is illuminated. In addition to having various areas where families can come and spend pleasant time with their children, Şirinyer Racecourse, which has a wide culture in food and drink culture, is still serving in our Buca district as a 2-century-old facility.
